Are you new in the sector of venture philanthropy and impact investing (VP/II)? Then this is the right course for you to deepen your knowledge and grow your network!

Join us and explore how investors for impact use the venture philanthropy approach throughout their investment process. This online course is specifically designed to offer participants who are new to the sector with the fundamental toolkit to practice venture philanthropy and impact investing. As a participant, you will:

  • learn the basic concepts and practical tools of venture philanthropy and impact investing
  • acquire the knowledge to develop an impact-centric funding strategy
  • understand the entire investment process, including techniques used for due diligence, closing and structuring of deals, governance aspects of a venture philanthropy organisation, how to manage an impactful exit and portfolio management
  • discover real-life case studies from experienced investors for impact from all over Europe
  • learn how to build your own theory of change as an investor for impact.

Course structure

This is a comprehensive online training co-designed by EVPA and ESADE Business School consisting of self-paced preparation learning, three compulsory online live sessions with leading professors and practitioners, and homework assignments using EVPA’s Online Learning Platform.

On 20 and 27 April two live sessions will take place from 9.00 to 12.00 and 14.00 to 15.30 CET, and one live session on 29 April from 09:00-12:00 CET. The EVPA Training Academy and ESADE Business School have developed an interactive and engaging online training using different online tools, so you can get the most out of this learning experience. After the live sessions you will have the chance to work on your own action plan to develop or revise your impact strategy and you will receive a feedback during a final session on 20 May (10:00-12:00 CET) as well as a certificate issued by ESADE Business School and EVPA. In order to get to know your peers before the course, we offer a one-hour informal network table on 19 April from 16:00-17:00 CET (Brussels time). We strongly encourage you to take part in this informal session, which will help to break the (Zoom) ice and facilitate working with your peers during the live sessions.

Who should attend

The training is designed for practitioners with no or little experience in the VP/II field. It targets professionals from all type of capital providers as impact investing funds and foundations, financial institutions, incubators, accelerators, and corporate social investors with an interest in developing an impact-centric funding approach.

Participation Fees:

EVPA members have priority access to the courses and enjoy a 50% discount on the regular participation fees.

Speakers

Dr. Lisa Hehenberger

Dr. Lisa Hehenberger

Dr. Lisa Hehenberger is a lecturer in Strategy and General Management at ESADE. She is a renowned expert on venture philanthropy and social impact investment.

She is a member of the European Commission's Expert Group on Social Business (GECES) and of the OECD's Social Impact Investment Expert group. She served on the French National Advisory Board and the Impact Measurement Working Group of the Social Impact Investment Task Force established by the G8. Until recently, she was the Research and Policy Director of the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA). EVPA is the pan-European association for venture philanthropy and social impact investment. She set up and ran EVPA's Knowledge Centre, conducting and publishing research, and collecting and disseminating data and knowledge. She also coordinated EVPA's policy initiatives, facilitating the transfer of knowledge between policy makers and practitioners.

Dr. Hehenberger's research focuses on applying organisational theory to study the evolution of venture philanthropy and impact investment.

Fabio Segura

Fabio Segura

Fabio Segura is Co-CEO at Jacobs Foundation (JF) where he shares the responsibility for the overall success of the organization, while leading the development and execution of its 2030 strategy. From 2015 to 2019 he was Head of International Programs, where he was responsible for the strategic, financial, and operative direction of programs across Africa and Latin America.

Previously he served as Senior Investment Manager at LGT Venture Philanthropy, where he was responsible to establish and grow the organization's investments and operations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Prior to his work in sustainability, Mr. Segura served as a peace and development worker in Colombia and as consultant for the United Nations.


Dr. Bernd Klosterkemper

Dr. Bernd Klosterkemper

Bernd believes in the power of entrepreneurship to solve today's most relevant societal challenges. This led him to become a Partner at Ananda, where he mainly takes care of investment opportunities in DACH, Benelux and the Nordics. Bernd is deeply interested in innovations in the Digital Health, Ageing, AgriTech and Sustainability sectors.

He started his career at McKinsey & Company following his doctorate/law degree at the University of Bayreuth (Germany). As a project manager with focus on financial institutions and change management, he gained experience on the ground in countries such as Germany, the Netherlands and Malaysia. After being on the project team that founded PlanetHome, a B2B-/B2B2C player in the FinTech/PropTech space, he later became CEO of the company and was able to deepen his hands-on entrepreneurial knowhow.


Xavier Pont Martin

Xavier Pont Martin

Xavier is the Co-Founder of Ship2B Foundation which is a start-up which wants to promote social entrepreneurship and impact investment in Spain.

He is a counselor at Veritas, an organic food supermarket chain and he is a board member at Futur Foundation which is dedicated to sustainable restoration and to serving school canteens with people from collectives at risk of exclusion.


Sara Seganti

Sara Seganti

Sara is Impact Europe's Training Manager. She joined EVPA in 2017 to structure and to further develop the Training Academy activities, after more than ten years working as a project and impact manager, and as a trainer in the social impact field.

Before, Sara provided secretariat support to the Italian Advisory Board to the Social Impact Investment Taskforce established under the UK's Presidency of the G8. She is today the Secretary General of Social Impact Agenda per l'Italia, the Italian network for impact investing. She is a graduate in political philosophy and holds a master's degree in management of social enterprises from Bocconi Business School.
